It seems like forever since we did a Pilgrim’s Picks. Taking a look around the news today, it’s saturated with either Jerry Yang resigning or Mark Cuban’s SEC charges–both of which we’ve already covered.

Until I find something fresh and interesting, you can consider these Picks your amuse bouche yeux.

• Google brings voice search to the iPhone. Matt Cutts gushes over it–just days after gushing over Google’s Android phone (which doesn’t yet have voice search).
• Did Microsoft’s taste for revenge lead to Jerry Yang resigning?
• Forge–a non-profit that helps African refugees–is running out of money. Boris Mordkovich–having recently sold Search Marketing Standard–has jumped in to help them raise money. He wants your help too!
• If you’re looking for a enterprise-scale web site uptime service, then you might want to check out AlertSite. While not free, I’ve tested it and was impressed with the many features it offers.
• Want a quick, easy, and free way to compare your web site with your competition? Check out ReviewMyWeb–it’s pretty and pretty cool.

I don’t like September. Sure, the weather in Raleigh drops back down to the 80’s but that just reminds me that winter is on the way.

• Not strictly marketing news–actually it’s not marketing at all–but you might still be interested in all of the upgrades to Google’s Picasa.
• 58% of 18-65-year olds don’t know what “social networking” is. Either they’re just too old to to be hip, or they just don’t know that MySpace, Facebook, et al are known as “social networks.”
• Ever wanted to splice together multiple RSS feeds? You should take a look at RSS Mixer.
• Looking for a guest blogger? Want to be a guest blogger? Why not try Guest Blogger Finder?

Today’s Picks are just too good, so let’s jump right in.

• Researchers used Google Earth to study the alignment of 8510 cows around the world and discovered they tend to align themselves with Earth’s north-south magnetic fields. Sounds udderly ridiculous to me!
• Maybe a better use of Google Earth from Olympic gold medallist Kristin Armstrong. She used Google Earth to help her train for the varying elevations in China.
• Mozilla has announced Ubiquity–a new browser interface that brings useful information to your fingertips.
• Two internet security researchers demonstrate just how easy it is for hackers to intercept your web activity.
• Who spent the most money on internet display ads in June? That would be Microsoft. The top display ad publisher for the same period? Fox Interactive Media.
• Google Ad Manager has left beta. Actually, it’s still in beta, but at least now everyone can sign-up for it.
